Choosing the right location for your photo session can make all the difference in capturing beautiful, natural moments with your little one. From the cozy comfort of home to adventurous outdoor settings, here’s a guide to help you pick the perfect spot based on your child’s age.

Newborn – Cozy & Safe at Home
For newborn sessions, home is always the best choice. These early days are all about comfort, safety, and snuggling up in a familiar space. A home session allows us to capture the most intimate, authentic moments—tiny hands, sleepy smiles, and all the love surrounding your new arrival. Plus, there’s no need to pack up and leave the house, making the experience as relaxed and stress-free as possible for both baby and parents.
Up to 1 Year Old – The Magic of Home
Your baby is growing fast, but home remains the perfect place for photos. At this stage, they’re getting more expressive, making eye contact, and starting to explore. A home session lets them feel comfortable while we capture their tiny fingers and toes, those first little giggles, and their curiosity as they begin to move. It’s also the best way to create timeless, personal images that reflect this special stage in their development.
From 6 Months – Exploring the Outdoors (If It’s Warm!)
Once your baby can sit up and engage with their surroundings, we can start considering outdoor sessions—but only in warm weather! Babies love the world around them, and nature provides the perfect sensory playground, full of colors, textures, and soft natural light. Think golden fields, blooming flowers, or a peaceful lakeside setting.
If you prefer a clean, simple background, a studio session is also a wonderful option at this age. It offers a more controlled environment while still allowing space for your little one to move and play.

2 Years Old – Space to Move!
Two-year-olds are full of energy, curiosity, and BIG emotions. That’s why outdoor locations work best—they give your toddler the freedom to run, explore, and just be themselves. I’ll help you choose a location that’s safe, open, and free from distractions, so we can capture the most natural, joyful moments. If you prefer a more structured setting, a studio session can also work well, giving your child a space to move while keeping things visually clean and timeless.
3 Years Old – The Best of All Worlds
At three years old, attention spans are growing, and we have more flexibility with location choices. Home, outdoors, or studio—all are great options! Whether we capture them reading a favorite book at home, playing in a field of wildflowers, or twirling in a studio setting, this is a magical age for portraits.
4 Years Old – Confident & Adventurous
Your independent preschooler is ready to shine! By now, they have their own personality and interests, which makes for an exciting session. You can choose an adventurous outdoor location—think mountains, forests, or a scenic park—or keep it simple with a cozy home session or a bright, airy studio. No matter where we go, their confidence and joy will be at the heart of every photo.
Final Thoughts
Every stage of childhood is special, and the right location helps capture those fleeting moments beautifully. Whether you’re looking for the comfort of home, the beauty of nature, or a clean studio setting, we’ll create a session that feels just right for your family.
Where do you imagine your next session? Let’s plan something magical together!
